ORPHAN AND CHILD CARE The Afayo Foundation support children who have lost either one parent especially the bread winner or both parents and those that have been abandoned or neglected in the areas of our catchment. Most of the children are caught up in the dilemma of not knowing true parental love is and therefore Parenting is one of our key factors/services we offer these children.
A number of children in Uganda find themselves falling prey of abuse and so we have a child advocacy program for them as well as a referral or relocation program. Children who fall under this category are in most cases relocated and taken into our identified foster homes for proper care, love, parenting and spiritual nurturing. In these homes, children receive services such as accommodation, feeding, medication and education among others. Afayo Foundation supports children with direct school sponsorship funding where they get their tuition paid as well as scholastic material support ranging from Uniforms. For many Uganda children, the expense of the required uniform is enough to prevent them from attending school.
FAMILY EMPOWERMENT Many families in Uganda especially those in the rural communities where Afayo Foundation serves do not have any reliable source of income and are basically involved in small scale peasant farming which is seasonal and sometimes its determined by the weather.
Many of these families do not have the abilities to take care of the marginalized persons in their homes and considering the extended family structure system in Africa, the burden is always too much for them to handle. We therefore work with the already existing local structure systems such as the local leaders and the church in the identification of the needy families that qualify to receive the services of Afayo Foundation.
LIFE SKILLS TRAINING We have a life skills program for the single mothers, widows and out of school youths and these are identified by the community resource persons in the different villages together with the local leaders for efficiency. Some of the skills trained include but are not limited to: Salon and Embroidery Computer training Motor Vehicle Mechanics
In this way, the organisation is eased from the burden of having to take care of all the needs of the marginalized persons in each family.
